Qualifications are important. Self-esteem is life changing
Eastward House School, Cardiff
Our Classes
Due to their varying needs, pupils may not always be grouped according to key stage or age. They will be grouped in such a way as to enable all pupils to learn and achieve to the best of their ability, with a focus on their likely future destinations and goals.
We use Pupil Learning Journeys and My plan for My Future documents along with teacher observations, IDPs and assessment data. Pupils will access the curriculum through our 6 areas of learning and experience and qualifications via three different cohorts which are as follows:

GROUND FLOOR
Garth
In Garth, children have access to exciting learning experiences following the Our Curriculum.
There is a focus on social and emotional support in a calm and relaxed atmosphere and children have daily support with their individual IDP targets.
We focus on experiential learning through themed half-termly topics, cookery and out and about days.
FIRST FLOOR
Pen y Fan
When ready for their next step, pupils will make the move to Pen Y Fan. Like Garth, pupils in Pen Y Fan follow our Curriculum and 6 AoLE's in which pupils typically follow EHS Progression Steps 2-4.
However, unlike Garth, pupils in Pen Y Fan now have access and support to qualifications such as SWEET and ASDAN.
Pupils are more likely to work independently in Pen Y Fan therefore individualised and flexible timetables are more common.

SECOND FLOOR
Snowdon
Pupils in Snowdon work towards achieving qualifications, including iGCSE’s/GCSE’s, SWEET certificates, ASDAN qualifications, in preparation for post-16 pathways.
The pupils have a flexible timetable and sit exams during the winter and summer series.
The more formal approach to learning is supplemented with student led social trips, wellbeing interventions and specific support as stipulated in their IDPs.
